    Frequently asked questions

    Shipping

1.1 How quickly do you ship orders?

Typically, your order is packed and shipped they day we receive it if it comes in by 3pm that day. If it comes in later, we get it out by the next morning. Shipping providers are closed on Sundays, so any orders made after 11am Saturday will ship the following Monday AM. We offer an array of USPS/UPS shipment options at competitive prices, including expedited shipping.

1.2 Why do you only use USPS and UPS?

We live in a remote island location and it costs money to get services to pick up orders, so we have chosen these two because they are either the most convenient and dependable providers. If there is a reason you need the shipping to be FedEx, you can place the order with us over the phone and we will try to accommodate the shipping service request.

    1.3 Do you ship plants?

No, we can't ship plants. To do that successfully requires both a significant investment in facilities to pack them safely and a knowledge of shipping laws of live plant materials. Our nursery operation is too small for that.

1.4 Where do you ship from?

We ship from our Whidbey Island storefront location in Coupeville, Washington, where most of our products are made.

1.5 Can I change or cancel my order after placing it?

If you need to change or cancel an online order, it's important to contact us as quickly as possible before the order is fulfilled & shipped (typically same day). While our system does not allow us to alter existing online orders, we can cancel online orders as long as they have not been shipped. Once cancelled, you can simply place a new online order with your desired changes.

1.6 Will I receive tracking information?

Yes, all our online orders shipped by USPS or UPS come with tracking numbers you can use to monitor package status. You will receive your tracking number by email once the order is fulfilled for shipment.

1.7 Can I place an order online and pick it up in-store?

Yes! We have free in-store pickup available on our online store. It's easy: just add the items to your cart and select "At Store Pickup" during checkout and complete your purchase. You will be notified by email when your items are ready to pickup in our Coupeville, Washington storefront on Whidbey Island.

In-store pickup available during our normal business hours Mon-Sat 10am-5pm, Sun 12-5pm.

We can usually accommodate in-store pickup within 1-2hrs of orders placed before 3pm. Orders placed after 3pm will be ready by noon next day.

1.8 How much does shipping cost?

We take pride in offering the lowest shipping fees possible and never add handling fees or up-charges. Whatever USPS/UPS charges us is what you pay. Live shipping rates are calculated during online checkout, so you will always be able to see exactly how much shipping will cost before you purchase.

We offer a wide variety of shipping options at competitive rates, including standard and expedited. Of course, final shipping costs will depend on where you live and how quickly you want your order shipped.

1.9 Do you offer free shipping?

We offer 10% off online orders of $85 or more, which is our equivalent of free shipping incentives. To receive this promotion, use coupon code LAVLOVE at checkout. You will see your savings deducted from your cart total.

This discount usually equates close to typical standard shipping costs, depending on desired shipping method and purchase total.

1.10 Do you ship internationally (Canada)?

Unfortunately, we do not currently ship outside the USA due to complicated customs regulations given our very diverse product line. We hope to expand shipment options to Canada in the future.

    Products

2.1 Why are there so many different lavender essential oils in your catalog?

On our farm we grow 17 kinds of lavender. Most of those we don't distill, but the ones we do distill we do separately, by variety. We think it is amazing that lavender comes in so many different scents, and they contain a differing profile of constituents. This is a relatively rare opportunity to get lavender essential oil by variety. We do have some blends that we put together. They are blends of lavenders that either we like, or are a combination of small batch of lavenders that are similar to each other.

    2.2 Are your products handmade?

Yes, most of our products are handmade by us right in our Coupeville kitchen. We careful make, pour, bottle, stuff, and label these products by hand in small-batches. Our seamstress does all our sewing, and our custom engravings are done by the owner.

For our lavender-based products, we use lavender materials derived from locally grown plants farmed in Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island. All our baked goods and baking mixes are handmade from scratch. Other handmade products include: Soaps, hydrosol, essential oils, candles, sachets, soothers, extracts, seasonings, culinary & crafting buds, teas, lotions, salves, bath salts, massage oil, etc.

For the products we don't personally make by hand, we try to source from local artisans or Washington-based providers. Including our raw honeys, infused oils, and a few other items.

2.3 Where does your lavender come from?

Our lavender is grown locally on a small family farm in Coupeville on Whidbey Island called Western Sun Lavender (formally Lavender Wind Farm). The farm carefully hand-harvests the lavender and small-batch distills it into essential oils and hydrosols using traditional methods. These fresh, locally produced lavender ingredients are then brought to our Coupeville shop, where we use them to craft many of our bath, body, and home products by hand.

This close connection to a local grower allows us to maintain exceptional quality, ensure consistency, and support sustainable, small-scale agriculture right here on Whidbey Island.

    2.4 Are your products organic?

While we prioritize using high-quality, naturally derived ingredients, our products are not certified organic. Organic certification for small-batch, handmade production can be prohibitively expensive, and even when we use organic materials, we choose not to label our products as such without formal certification.

That said, our approach is deeply rooted in clean and responsible sourcing. The lavender used in our products is grown locally without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers. From these plants, we produce pure, unadulterated essential oils and hydrosol, which form the foundation of many of our formulations.

Our focus is on simple, honest ingredients that are as natural as possible — crafted with care, transparency, and respect for both the land and the people who use our products.

    2.5 Are your products cruelty-free?

Absolutely. We never test our products on animals, and cruelty-free practices are a core part of how we operate. The majority of our products are handcrafted in-house, where no animal testing is involved at any stage of production.

For the items and materials we don’t personally make, we carefully source from trusted suppliers and local artisans who share our commitment to ethical, responsible practices. This ensures the products we carry align with our values of transparency, care, and respect for both people and animals.

2.6 Are your products safe for sensitive skin?

In most cases, yes. Our body products are thoughtfully handcrafted using simple, naturally derived ingredients that are widely regarded as gentle, nourishing, and skin-friendly. Over many years of real-world use, our balms, salves, soaps, and lotions have proven to be well-tolerated by customers with sensitive or easily irritated skin, and are frequently described as calming, restorative, and refreshing.

Our lavender hydrosol is especially mild and is commonly used as a soothing facial mist or skin toner. While lavender essential oil is considered one of the gentler essential oils, individual sensitivities can vary, so we always recommend performing a small patch test before broader use, especially for those with highly reactive skin or known sensitivities.

We craft our formulations with a mindful balance of effectiveness and gentleness, avoiding harsh additives whenever possible — allowing your skin to benefit from the natural properties of lavender in a safe, thoughtful way.
